Beta Radio Weekly Review: Week 3 (Mr.Controversy)

First in foremost like my fan page and follow me on twitter @whobeta.

As hurricane Issac swept through St.Louis. Beta Radio was live & direct on 89.5 the wave & we started September off big. Our 1st guest, and 40 year old rapper (no not 2 Chains) cancelled at the last moment. This was great because it allowed @whobeta to play more great, indie music.

Click Photo to here interview/music review.

The 1 pm Hours things we took the show to Texas with special guest caller T. Fields who represents all of West Texas. He gave us a little background on where he came from and was even nice enough to review some of the music we had in Rotation. After listening to music from The 80’s Baby ( St.Louis artist), Young Dirt (N.C. artist), Mss Texas (of course from Texas), Mos Precious & So So Def new artist Fresco Kane (both from Stl Region). He gave 2 songs a surprising Green Light, said 2 songs were OK and, gave them a yellow, but was disappointed with 1 song giving it  the unhonorable  red light. To hear his entire interview click on the above photo.

After our 1st official guest we continued our mission in playing great indie artist. I didn’t believe my 3rd guest would arrive but at 3 PM battle world super star Aye Verb, friend and elite St.Louis Promoter Chigga Chase, and Behind the Scenes master mind JP arrived but from different entrances (random). We started our Interview talking about his situation at SM2 in which P.Diddy put $10,000 of his money on the outcome. He explained that was Diddy’s money was involved the entire crowd atmosphere changed and he even admits giving his opponent round 2 while also mentioning his opponent becoming so physical that he had to push him off of him. We also discussed the history of the battle Scene in St.Louis & the emergence of the St.Louis Big 3 ( Aye Verb, Hitman Holla, & Ill Spitta). We even addresses issues of him blocking others from a successful career.  To hear entire Chase & Verb interview click on thier above photo.

After coming back from a break Aye Verb addresses why he dropped commercial  single St.Louis chick, and basically states that it was a waste of time. We then addressed his new projects. He’s working on a new mixtape, clothing line with Greedy Genuious, a 12 chapter audio book, and bringing back World Wars. We discussed his following on twitter and even admits to banging alot of his followers. After asking him why so many people hate him he some how began interviewing me which for me was an unexpected highlight of the interview.

Last break with the guys and Chigga Chase tells us about all the wonderful parties they have and brags about pouring Ciroc and other fluids down various BM’s, Girlfriends, & Wife’s with no remorse for his actions. Chase sounded very passionate as he explained  his track record throwing parties going on 4 years, admitting to the viewers that he is responsible for the crowd that East St.Louis club Posh and inherited rather people believe accept it or not. He urges all promoters that make less than half of the earnings from promoting to stop considering themselves as promoters (in some cases sounding direct to certain people but…. if the shoe fits wear it…right). He talks about their current parties at the City on Saturday’s &and 609 on Sundays, also announcing their return to Escalades Bar& Grill. Before closing Verb addresses listeners again expressing to all their hater’s to do better. For more on their interview Click Link for more on the interview with Chase & Verb Click Picture at the Below.

After that there was about 20 minutes left to the show we played more indie music and signed off till next show. Make sure y’all tune in next week  the 40 year old rapper has scheduled, also rumored platinum recording artist, up coming djs, an artist who works with Soulja Boy, and more so tune in 12p-4p Cst 89.5.

Beta Radio Review: Week 1 Dont Stop The Show

Beta Review For Audio Click Here

August 18th 2012, Beta Radio was aired. Some of the topics of the week included rumors that Nas doesn’t write his own music, the ongoing beef with Ludacris and rising hip hop stars Big Sean & Drake. Confirmed guest Def Jam’s Ray Jr & Pine Lawn’s The 80’s Baby.

Def Jam’s new recording artist was suppose to call in 12:15 Pm but after an 1 hour passed we didn’t expect him to call . Saint Louis artist 80’s baby came through (late) & reviewed several tracks in rotation on the show, & even gave one song a rare green light. Some of the Songs he reviewed were from St.Louis artist L’z up, Tef Poe, Contact, North Carolina’s Male Artist of the Year Young Dirt, Texas Artist T Fields.  Also during he show he called out a few artist from St.Louis that claim Pine Lawn. He even went as far to say that one of the artist in question has never lived in Pine Lawn, never been to a hood bbq, never held it down for Pine Lawn. He also talked about the state of Hip Hop in St.Louis as well as other topics.

By the end of te show Def Jam’s Ray Jr never called in.  I took some cool pictures with the 80’s Baby and broke new tracks like TAG teams Over dose, & the 80’s Baby Wowzer’s. The 1st person to tweet @rayjr216 and mention me and skipping the interview gets a surprise.

Don’t forget to tune in to Beta Radio this week 12p-4p on 89.5 the wave stream it live http://www.stlcc.edu/kcfv, as well as most other outlets, including Itunes, & shoutcast.

RITZ ROCKS ATOMIC COWBOY

Good things happened 6/26/2012 when Ritz touched down in St. Louis for the revival tour, at the Atomic Cowboy. It started off with a lot of great local indie talent, White Owl, Preach, and plenty more. Special guest League of extraordinary G’z entertained the crowd before and during their performance, especially with their mascot Lion. They brought a new sound I wasn’t used to hearing from Texas artist. I wasn’t able to catch the beginning of Ritz performance but when but with the song I came in on caught my attention immediately. He gave an excellent stage show and even stayed for most of the after party which included performances from So & So, Step or Get Left, and special guest Tef Poe.

(To hear Ritz Interview click photo of Ritz to see more concert photos click the human lion)

Overall it was a good show well organized, zero confusion. Only things I noticed that was a downer was the song selection of The Legendary Dj Sno, the heat, and long performances from opening acts. Sno played a lot of urban/ club music which I really enjoyed but, the crossover crowd wasn’t too enthused with Yo Gotti & 2 Chains. I always knew that when you put a bunch of Black people together it gets hot and hell & I never experienced a bunch of white people bunched together until that day. The end result was that a cool breeze swept through the crowd….bull shit it was hot as hell. Salute to the bear Mascot   he jepradized his health to entertain us all, lol. I enjoyed all of the performance’s but found myself getting tired of hearing them after the 1st 10 minutes of each set.

After Ritz performed his set we caught up with him for an interview.   He gave us good answers as we asked about his cracker influenced rap name, the Caucasian rapper time gap, and more. After the camera stopped rolling we continued to talk for a moment. With his humble words, and obvious hunger I became a fan of Ritz & if he comes back to St. Louis I will come see him & so should you. Shout out to Royal1mangement.com for bringing him to town.

SHOWING SOME LOVE

ST.LOUIS ARTISTS ALWAYS BITCH ABOUT NO ONE SHOWING LOVE BUT NEVER EMBRACE THE LOVE WHEN ITS GIVEN. ST.LOUIS ARTISTS ARE THEIR OWN WORST ENEMY.

ON THE LAST DAY OF MAY, 2011. THERE WAS A CONTEST TO OPEN UP FOR DORROUGH, (HIT SINGLE’S ICE CREAM PAINT JOB, WALK THAT WALK), SPONSORED BY BIG G BENTLEY, SOU FRESH ENT, DJ WHOBETA, & BETA 2SDAY’S. THE CONTEST WAS $10 PER ACT AND ADMISSION WAS FREE FOR EVERYONE ALL NIGHT.

WE WERE SUPPOSE TO GIVE AWAY 2 SLOTS TO OPEN UP FOR DORROUGH, 1 BASED OFF THE JUDGE’S DECISION & THE OTHER BASED OFF CROWD PARTICIPATION. THERE WERE 11 ACTS IN ALL WHO PERFORMED THAT NIGHT AND OUT OF THE 11 THE CROWD CHOSE T PRINCE OVERWHELMINGLY. THE JUDGES THEN ANNOUNCED THEIR DECISION & L’Z UP WON THE JUDGE’S DECISION TO OPEN UP FOR DORRUGH AT SPRUILL’S.

MORE SURPRISES CAME WHEN BIG G BENTLEY DECIDED TO GIVE AWAY 4 MORE SLOTS THAT DAY AND A 5TH SLOT THE NEXT DAY. SO 7 OUT OF 11 ARTISTS WHO ENTERED WON THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM FOR A TOP SELLING ARTIST FOR $10.00 (WOW).
EVEN THOUGH HE INITIALLY WON THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES BECAUSE OF HIS EXCELLENT SHOW, IT WAS RUMORED THAT L’Z UP WAS TELLING PEOPLE HOW THE CONTEST WAS FIXED BECAUSE HE DIDN’T WIN BY CROWD PARTICIPATION. SHOCKINGLY A LOT OF ARTISTS FELT THIS WAY, EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS A FREE EVENT THAT ANYONE OVER 18 COULD ATTEND. THERE WERE OTHER ARTISTS WHO DIDN’T WIN AT ALL STATING HOW THIS CONTEST WAS FIXED EVEN THOUGH 7 OUT OF 11 ARTISTS WERE CHOSEN. MANY OF THOSE ARTISTS STILL HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST ME TO THIS DAY. (KANYE SHRUGG)
ONE OF THOSE ARTIST I LOOKED UP TO LIKE A BIG BROTHER IN MY YOUNGER DAY’S, LAVELL WRIGHT. IT WAS RUMORED THAT HE WAS TELLING PEOPLE THE CONTEST WAS FIXED BECAUSE HE FELT HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A SLOT BECAUSE I & 1 OF THE JUDGE’S KNEW HIM PERSONALLY.

THE 7 ACTS WHO WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO OPEN UP FOR DORROUGH WERE ASKED TO PROMOTE THE EVENT VIA FLYERS AND SOCIAL NETWORKS. NONE OF THE CONTEST WINNERS EVER PICKED UP/ NOR REQUESTED THE FLYERS THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO PASS OUT. SOME OF THE ARTIST EVEN CHOSE NOT TO MENTION THE CONCERT IN WHICH THEY WERE TO PERFORM AT EVEN ONE TIME.
SOME OF THE ARTIST WERE UPSET THE DAY OF THE CONCERT WHEN THEY FOUND OUT THEY ONLY WERE TO RECEIVE 5 MINUTE SETS BUT NONE OF THE ARTIST HAD A REAL DEMAND FOR THEIR MUSIC BECAUSE I CAN ONLY THINK OF ONE ACT THAT BROUGHT MORE THAN THE 3 FREE PEOPLE ALLOWED TO COME WITH THEM.
THIS WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR UP N COMING ARTIST TO CAPITALIZE BUT INSTEAD IT WAS A SERIES OF EVENTS THAT PROVED WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE MUSIC SCENE IN ST.LOUIS.

BIG G BENTLEY SPENT MORE THAN $7,000 DOLLARS ON THIS EVENT AND SHOWED LOVE BY ALLOWING 7 ARTIST TO CONTRIBUTE NOTHING BUT THEIR (TALENT) TO HIS EVENT. SHOW YOUR LOCAL ARTIST SOME LOVE. THEY DESERVE IT.

SHOULD I RELEASE PART 2 OF THIS STORY PLEASE GIVE FEEDBACK.

10 REASONS WHY ARTIST GET TREATED LIKE TRASH.

10 REASONS WHY ARTIST GET TREATED LIKE TRASH.

OF COURSE THERE ARE MORE THAN TEN REASONS WHY ARTIST ESPECIALLY RAP ARTIST GET LOOKED AT WITH A NEGATIVE EYE BUT, I ONLY FEEL LIKE GIVING TEN EXAMPLES. THIS DOESN’T REFLECT EVERY ARTIST BUT THE FEW THAT HAVE DIRECTION & TALENT GET OVER TAKEN MY THE MASSES THAT DON’T GET IT.

  1. QUALITY OF MUSIC

HOW MANY ARTIST OUT THERE HAVE MASTERED OR DECENTLY MIXED TRACKS ? DJ’S HATE BEING THE BLAME WHEN WHEN THE QUALITY OF YOUR MUSIC SUCKS. ARTIST, THE MUSIC MIGHT SOUND GOOD IN YOUR BASEMENT BUT ONCE ITS ON A REAL SOUND SYSTEM THE CHEAPNESS SHOWS.

  1. LACK OF BUSINESS SENSE HOW MANY OF YALL GOT RIGHTS TO YALL SONGS, TRACKS EVEN YALL NAME

IT KILLS ME THAT ARTIST CREATE SO MUCH MATERIAL BUT DO NOTHING TO PROTECT IT. IT REALLY KILLS ME WITH ARTIST HAVE THESE COMMON NAMES THAT MULTIPLE ARTIST HAVE. BE ORIGINAL AND PROTECT YOU ORIGINALITY.

  1. LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM HOW MANY ARTIST DO SOUND CHECK OR ARRIVE ON TIME TO PERFORM

TO MANY ARTIST FEEL THEY ARE TO IMPORTANT TO GET TO A SHOW ON TIME. EVEN WORSE YOU GET THERE AND THE ONLY PEOPLE YOU BRING WANT TO GET IN THE VENUE FREE. UP N COMING ARTIST WITH NO FAN BASE THIS IS A BIG PET PEEVE TO MOST PROMOTERS. HAVE YOUR MUSIC READY & HAVE A BACK UP PLAN.

  1. YALL CHEAP HOW MANY OF YALL SPEND/INVEST LESS THAN $100 ON YALL MUSIC A MONTH NO BUDGET

THE MUSIC BUSINESS IS A (BUSINESS). BUSINESS OWNERS SPEND MONEY INVESTING IN THEIR COMPANY. I DON’T SEE OTHER SMALL COMPANIES BEGGING FOR HAND OUTS ONLY ARTIST MOSTLY RAP ARTIST.

  1. NO PLAN 10 ARITST NO FRONT MAN

THE AGE OF WU TANG, OR ANY LARGE GROUP OF AFFILATED ARTIST IS OF A DYING BREED. WHY MUST IN CERTAIN SHOWS, SHOW CASES, AND CONCERTS, THE SAME GROUP OF 5-10 ARTIST PERFORM TOGETHER BUT UNDER A DIFFERENT HEADLINING NAME. THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR SERIOUS INQUIRES TO FIND OUT WHO’S WHO. ALSO IT DRAGS A SHOW OUT AND MAKES IT BORING BECAUSE WITH MOST UP & COMING ARTIST THE AVERAGE PERSON CAN ONLY TOLERATE SO MUCH YET YOU TRY TO OVER LOAD THEM WITH MATERIAL THAT THEY ARENT INTERESTED IN. ADVICE, PLEASE HAVE A FRONT MAN AND DON’T TRY TO OVER BRAND A NEW (UN FAMILIAR) LABEL WITH TO MANY NEW (UNFAMILAR) ARTIST.

  1. DO 100 SONGS 100 SHOWS ACCOMPLISH = 0

ITS SAD HOW I HEAR ARTIST BRAGGING ABOUT PERFORMING EVERYDAY OF THE WEEK, &/OR DROPPING A NEW SONG EVERY OTHER DAY. WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO TO PERFORM IN FRONT OF THE SAME PEOPLE EVERY WEEK. WHAT SENSE DOES IT MAKE TO PUSH NEW SONGS AND PEOPLE DON’T KNOW YOUR OLD MATERAIL.

  1. 7.ARTIST DONT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL THE EXPOSURE ESPECIALLY ALL OF THE FREE OUTLETS

I UNDERSTAND YOU SHOOT FOR THE MOON LAND ON THE STARS, BUT WHEN YOU ARE FIRST COMING OUT YOU NOT ABOUT TO GET SPINS ON A MAJOR STATION #FACT. BUT SO MANY ARTIST IGNORE THE ONLINE SHOWS, THE BLOGTALKS, THE COLLEGE RADIO DJS, THE PUBLIC RADIO FORUMS. SAME THING WITH SHOWS A LOT OF YOU ARTIST AINT READY TO OPEN UP FOR THE NEXT BIG STAR. PRACTICE YOUR CRAFT AT SOME OF THESE SHOW CASES, PARTIES, OPEN MICS. THIS GAME IS ABOUT STARTING AT A LEVEL MASTERING THAT LEVEL AND THEN GRADUATING TO THE NEXT.

  1. LOYAL TO THE WRONG PEOPLE

I HAVE A SAYING THAT GOES “SOME PEOPLE RIDE THE WRING DICK INSTEAD OF SHAKING THE RIGHT HANDS. TOO MANY ARTIST SPEND ALL THIS TIME BEFRIENDING DJ’S THAT DON’T WANNA BE YOUR FRIEND, SPENDING MONEY WITH PROMOTERS THAT LAUGH AT YOUR PERFORMANCE., ATTEMPTING TO COLLAB WITH ARTIST THAT DON’T WANT TO COLLAB. YOU DON’T HAVE TO REACH OUT TO EVERYBODY THAT HAS A BUZZ AND HOPE TO GET ATTENTION GET A LOOYAL TEAM TOGETHER AND FORMULATE A PLAN THAT CAN GIVE YOU SOME SUCCESS.

  1. YALL LOOKING FOR SHORT CUTS STEADY GETTING DICKED/SCAMMED

IN LIFE PERIOD THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS TO LONG TERM SUCCESS. YOU NEED A FOUNDATION

10   AFRAID TO TAKE CRITICISM

IN ST.LOUIS IF YOU TELL SOMEONE YOU DON’T LIKE THEY MUSIC YOU’RE A HATER, WHEN TRUTHFULLY MAYBE YOU JUST MAKE HORRIBLE MUSIC, OR MAYBE YOU NEED TO CHANGE UP SOMETHINGS THAT YOU WOULDN’T NO TO CHANGE UP WITH OUT RECEIVING FEEDBACK. DON’T BE AFRAID TO HEAR WHY SOMEONE DOESN’T LIKE YOUR MUSIC IT CAN HELP YOU MAKE THEM A FUTURE FAN.

(Great, Good, Ok, Bad, Sucks)

Recording quality: Great
Graphics:Good
Music:Great
Production:Good
Downloads:ok
Overall: Pretty Good

Strengths-Da’louza’s choice of a Dj for this project was a power move, With Dj Bed Tyme, giving the mix tape a more broader appeal, and really helps capture that east coast style that his music embodies. Unique track selection. WIith this project Da’Louza uses various tracks from Jay Z, Wale, Dolla, Kanye West, T.I., Drake, as well as a few originals. On Life’s an Illusion Da’louza talks about various issues, such as police brutality, black consciousness, Religion, and other social topics, and even a few joints for the women.

Weakness’s At first listen some of the rap melondies are over the edge. Lacks St.Louis sound (what ever that means) lol Extreme views on certain issues could turn certain audiences off.

If you like these Albums you’ll like lifes and Illusion: Illmatic, Blue Print, Eminem Show

Don’t listen to this Album if:

You only like Dance tracks
You hate music that makes you think
You can’t listen to one artist for over 60 minutes
